Where can I find Topfield receivers?

G'day
Would anyone on the forum know where I could locate Topfield receivers in Australia? I've been to all the satellite tv dealers I could find online but so far no luck.

I'm looking for a good receiver that covers FTA as well as Irdeto and from what I've read here, the Topfield 3200 with the blind search feature looks pretty good.

I did find the Topfield 3000, but I'm guessing this is an earlier model.

Thanks for any help!

Topfield 3200 is not a blind-scan receiver - the transponder frequencies must be entered manually. They work OK for what they are and in fact perform better than Powtek on a weak signal. Both units have their quirks but for general use the Powtek is better to use. I have another receiver - Humax - coming today and will see how this performs.

TOPFIELD Australia website
http://www.topfield-australia.com.au
"Topfield TF3200IR
Irdeto Embedded Digital Satellite Receiver This receiver is perfect for use with FTA and Irdeto Satellite Services. The Irdeto embedded smart card slot allows any smart card using the Irdeto system."

You are probaly better going for a decoder that can take CI Module that way it will give you more options if needed later.

The site sponsor has two models listed on their site
www.adigitalife.com

I have heard some Topfield decoders are having problems with certain transmissions on C1

hmmmmm...... I'm not sure where I got my wires crossed with the blind scan feature and the Topfield receivers. Thanks for pointing that out Ocean!!

Thanks also for the other info guys, very helpful indeed.

With the Topfield 3200, would having the imbedded Irdeto smartcard slot restrict me at all in any way? (I'm thinking of any future updates here with Irdeto...) or would that possibly be covered with firmware updates?

Or would it be better to look for a receiver that takes a CI Module?

dih - you don't need a card or a cam for FTA. The Topfield 3200ir is a good cheap little receiver which actually performs better on weak signals than a popular receiver often quoted at this place - the Powtek - which does not even have a card slot. FTA is just that - fortuitous reception of signals - sometimes there for only hours or minutes. Unless test patterns get you revved up you must keep looking for new signals !

As Ocean mentioned you don't need a card or cam for true fta

But a CI Module may give you more choice in the non-fta area, as there are a few companies that allow you to use your own box.
With that said they are mostly using Irdeto but there are some using seca.

I cannot go any further as this is an fta forum and we don't talk about subscriber TV

I suppose it’s really up to you and what you watch

I just looked at the manual it does USALS which is a great feature which makes using a Motek so much easier.

There also one of the few receivers that will capature and play Measat 2

With regard to the inbedded CAM,, while it will not effect the
FTA capabilities of the receiver,, it could be an asset. But by the way things are going, Card slots are going the way of Analogue
receivers,, They look impressave, but do nothing..
