I got a new LNBF recently and after replacing it to my existing LNB, it won't register any signal at all. Can anyone comment what is the LNB frequency I have to set in the decoder. My decoder is the basic Humax F1-ACE.

C Band LNBF sometimes has the LO written on it

Firtly on your antenna menu is the LNB switched on
It should read 11.300. That,s if its a normal LNB, if however its a Universal LNB it should read low 9.750 high 10.600. with the Humax
I think there is a Universial setting in the menu, which will give you the setting automatically
Also check the 22 hurz switch is off..
It may only be a question of a small adjustment of the LNB angle , what does the signal strength meter indecate. If you replace the old unit, what happens. ??

Bassett, I managed to use the old setting 5510 in the decoder to get the signal finally. Strange things is it didn't register any signal when I first fixed it in. I also tried setting the LNB frequency to Universal and I lost the signal again. The new LNBF that I got is C band Strong 15K dual polarity. Also there is no literature on the LNBF box that said anything about LNBF Frequency setting.

Go to installation menu, service searching, antenna setting.

Select of 5150Mhz for LNB frequency C band.

After you set it go back and check to see if has been loaded in the memory.

Sinbad, Thanks for the tips anyway, I managed to tune the LNBF now after spending all Sunday and half of this morning. Why 5150? Is there any set frequency that you have to use for certain type of LNBF? I wish they can put it down in the literature. Also the LNBF didn't come with any instruction at all. Thanks again guys!

How is the new LNB.

Did it give you a better signal quality.

I am a strong believer that if I have to spend more than an hour on a problem go back to the internet and find out or ring somebody

You really think I didn't spend anytime at all in the internet Sinbad? My cook has already complained that I didn't help her in the Kitchen. Maybe my involvement in Satellite stuff is very new but the first website I found is this website. Give me some time mate. Oh yes, I did ring you on Sunday two times to consult, hee! hee! hee! but I guess you are not answering the call. Neverthe less, the LNB work fine and now I am getting Hunan channel consistently. Guangdong is still a hit and miss. I owe you one Sinbad, maybe my cook can throw up a few dishes for you sometime.

Sorry about Sunday, I went to the football and did not take the mobile.....worst game of football I have seen for a long time, it was only 7 minutes of good football when the eagles kicked three goals in the last quarter......Geelong played well.

On the satellite info:
Another tip is to wait for a night when you are getting good signal quality, take you decoder box and a portable TV out to the dish and fine tune the LNB little better.

Old lap top computers that can take an AV signal directly in make a perfect TV monitor and you can pick these up cheaply. You can also store all you Sat information on this laptop.

Firstly make sure your dish is set correctly and you are getting the maximum signal quality...write down the figure.

Set the LNB at one position and then push it in/out at all the fd ratios marks on your LNB and get the cook to write down the signal quality level for each mark......use the Guangdong channel. which is a hoz channel.....I think.

The next step is to set the LNB on the FD ratio which gave you the largest signal and then start rotating in and take a reading at the 12, 1, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 oclock positions and write down the signal quality for each setting ensuring on the same fd ratio mark (in out position).

Do above tests for a vertical channel also to see if there is a difference.

From your results you should be able to determine the best position to set the LNB on. It is a little time consuming but it will get you more signal for 30 minutes of stuffing around.

Another item to check is your focal length of your dish.......have a look at

Working out the Focal length of a Prime Focus Dish use the following,,

Diameter X Diameter
devided by
Depth of dish X 16

OR

20 X 20 400
over devided 5
5 X 16 80

Now someone give me the formula for an Off-set Dish.

Thankyou Sinbad, an excellent comprehensive answer about solving or at least having a go at resolving poor signal hassles. I cannot get some tv stations off of the Palapa C2 sat that others can in my area. I thought I would have to upsize my dish but maybe not.........I thought it was a "set and forget" type arangement with the LNBF but this is simply not the case.

By the way I had a look at Basset's home pics and if they made roofs out of parabolic curvatures, he'd have one for sure! Way to go!
