$748 with a 80gig hd.

Thats a pretty fair price considering it is just released.

I have heard that they go pretty good.

Gotta work out what I can sell to pay for one :-(

I remember my first VCR was the same price back in 1984. I had a lot of help from my parents to get it though.

Does this come with IEEE 1394 firewire to download recorded files to your computer?

It uses USB to connect to the computer.

Why they're not putting a firewire in it? If it is using USB1 instead of USB2, the transfer rate is going to be slow. Anyone tried this before. I was just about to order a eMtec 320 for Christmas until I saw this. Got to think again now.

IF the thing had a SCSI port, there might be some point to it, as it is connecting via USB, It is going to be a bit slow..

Didn't Slydog review the decoder sometime ago? Surely you could open the box and check it out. If it runs on Linux and has an HDD it's got to have a recognisable Motherboard.

Just a thought maybe.

I would doubt that its a recognisable motherboard. It would be a custom one that is designed just for satellite decoders and I would seriously doubt it had connections for other interfaces (I could be wrong). I prefer Ethernet connections for anything that talks to the PC but I don't see why USB wouldn't do a good job as nearly all PC's have USB ports and not as many people have Network Cards and even fewer use Firewire.

I have given up transfering files from STB to Pc. I reakon PVR's are just for short term. Unless your a dvd freak, a pvr in my opinion is just short term as transfering files then converting then burning take more time than what a $20 dvd will cost me

This is the first box that I have seen for a while that actually looks like it got potential.

After playing with a friends Dream the tuner was not sensitive enuf for me.

Hope this one has good tuners.

There are pics on the forum from inside. I pinched one for here.

I see it has it's own power supply for the HD, the dream uses the IDE cable for power which i reakon has problems in it own.

It would be good to see what the tuners are like, slydog, let us know ,,,,,when you've sold the kidney

Nice solid looking power supply,,,But I really can,t see myself doing "Home surgery" with a soldering iron..

On the subject of PVR's, I think I'll side with Yalickit, they are a bit of a gimmick, and for that sort of money, You can nearly get a DVD recorder.. Or there are any amount of sites on the net,
to download the latest Movies.

But if your intrest is a Twin Tuner machine, there a reasonable price compaired to the Emtech. Providing you can find something to watch

don't get me wrong basset, a PVR is the best invention around. Kills any VCR, and makes accessing those recorded flicks easy to get to. No messy walls of millions of tapes. It's the transfering files, converting them to the correct format, then burning them that takes up so much time, that I'd rather be finishing off my latest home brew.

or watching tv.
