Question UEC DSD 910 signal status "unlocked"

I have a UEC DSD 910 Aurora (compatible with foxtel and optus) and I was entering in my settings for my LNB etc. In the signal detection option I was getting 57% on ABC asia pacific frequency on Pas 8. But the signal status said "unlocked" what does this mean? Is the signal strength not strong enough for it to "lock" or is it something else?

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks

Not encrypted or clear perhaps?

One way to find out. Tune in to MTV Asia or some other encrypted channel on Pas8. If it says "locked" then that is the answer.

Question

So if the signal status is unlocked (unencrypted) as a free-to-air service how do I get that channel viewable on this particular device.

I don't have a smart card for it. But I am not aiming for Aurora services I just want to get free to air through it.

Thanks.

Actually I think your first assumption might be correct. You simply may not have signal. I don't have this box so I'm not sure.

Do you have LNB freq correct eg 5150? Pointed at Pas8 with a big enough dish? I'm just guessing.

I have the uec 910 and use it for ku.
It does not seem to be as sensitive as other boxes and only has a signal strength meter.
The locked feature means that it has locked onto the satellite i.e. strong enough signal for pictures.
When the box is locked onto a sat it should then display the sat name as well.

It needs a strong signal to lock on and get pictures seems to be around 75%

Where my other box (extreme) will get pictures on much lower signal strengths.

The uec 910 also does have another problem with some sats

Example with pas 8 ku fta it wants a card to be inserted and just has black screen with message to put card in while extreme decoder has pictures. I put my aurora card in the uec 910 still on pas 8 and it displayed pitures on the two fta but it also had a anoying message bar in the middle of the screen saying channel was scrambled. doh.

Yucky. Doesn't sound like a very good box for FTA.

All UEC receivers are limited in what they will do,, There very good at the Pay or Aurora services, and that's about it.
The trick would seem to be ,, Disable LNB one setting, and load via setting 2,3,4,, and so on..

About the only exception is if you can somehow aquire a UEC
"multichoice"" unit. These are the receivers they use on the South Africian services of Pas 10.. They also do not rely on a Coco setting. and are a lot more user friendly..

I also have a UEC Aurora, but it is the older 720 model. Forget it for FTA, if you do manage to get its weak tuner to find anything, it displays a very annoying message bar in the middle of the screen saying signal scrambled, even when it is fta and you got picture and sound! WRT the locked bit, this is like a "quality" indication, if it isnt locked, then pixelation or no picture is probable. Once it is locked tho, it displays the sats name and can usually tune to the ftps.

press menu

go to advanced setting
enter password 9949
go to installation
if it asks password use the same 9949
leave home network untouched go to the second or the other networks.
Change sat to the sat which you want.
add the frequencies.
go down to the last line to save the settings.
Go to scan all networks.

Try it.
