I'm considering buying one of the decoders for reception from the B3 satellite.
Any opinions on this decoder would be appreciated.

well in light of what has just been posted on austech regarding both hummys i wouldntnt be buy one now.

will be no more support for them either.

they are going to cease bringing them in i think

It really depends on how much your willing to spend. If you have the money buy a Topfield TF4000PVR with an Irdeto Cam. It will cost around $1000 but it has a built in 40GB HDD to record and playback.

OR

If you want something cheaper, a Topfield TF3000CIpro with an Irdeto Cam will cost around $500.

OR

Strong SRT 4800 II with an Irdeto Cam. These are around $500 aswell but I would probably say they would have better local support.

I haven't used any of these models but people who have them seem to like them.

the 4800II is a good box

whatever you buy make sure it has the capability of high symbol rate

The 5410Z will continue to be imported by Sciteq and will continue to be supported by Humax. Hotchip has made a commercial discission based solely on profit (as all businesses do!) not to continue stocking them.

This whole symbol rate issue has gotten way out of hand. It started as a small unsubstantiated rumour, like so many other doomsday rumours before it, and has progressed into a monolithic unsubstantiated rumour.

I prefer to look at the economics of the situation. With about 1/3 of the satellite decoders being used by Foxtel being the UEC660, and the UEC660 have a S/R range of 15-30 which is fixed by hardware, do you honestly think that Foxtel will increase the symbol rate any time soon????/ I mean they are struggling to turn a profit as it is with out going to the expense of upgrading their mux, replacing a third of their receivers and receiving little to no benefit..........

I leave you to make up your own mind about it, but with Humax's at $380 I don't think I would be buying a receiver that uses CI modules with all the problems they create, with out it having a hell of a lot more features than the strong 4800 or topfield Ci3000 have. Now a PVR that could be a different story..........

The important issue is that the humax works fine for FTA satellite tv including aurora and globecast on B3. If the purchase has anything to do with paytv your in the wrong forum.

Envy Envy Envy is all I can say. Actually I have been looking at this Em300B PVR for a while but couldn't convince my cook to agree spending $800 on a receiver. Keep us posted especially how the recording goes and the creation of VCD format using its USB port. I heard it comes with Movies editing software too. Any clues how to convince the cook. I need some excuses !!!!!!

OR

Fix up the RG6 cable so that the signal does not reach the box. Tell her the existing box does not work.....BROKEN......no FTA TV for a day or two and she will certainly want you to look at buying a new box.

Do it prior to a rainy day...tell her power surge caused the probem.

I cannot do this because my cook is a dual masters systems engineer. She will open it up and try to fix the problem.

A mistake Sinbad to take a chinese girl with dual master. She'll probably want to master everything at home right? My ex was like that but no fun at all as I can't cheat her like what you suggested or has done. Anyway that's a good suggestion because she just rang me to tell me that Perth is having a gale force wind and took the satellite signal off completely. Hopefully my dish didn't fly to my neighbour roof.
