THAI TV RECEIVER: ANY GOOD FOR OTHER CHANNELS?

Please bear with me, I am probably worse than a novice. I have had Thai TV FTA installed for a few years now, and have a Arion AF-3000E receiver.
It has a facility to scan for signals (would that be correct)?? and in fact (in fear and trepedation of killing my Thai TV reception) did a scan. Wooppee, a number of stations were shown, movie channels etc. But could not get any pic or sound. Goodness me, all I want is to see if I can get better use out of the almost $1,000 I spent on a dish and this receiver. Any help , and please keep it simple, would be most appreciated.

Colin, you have to tell us which satellite you are looking at, what band C or Ku? If you are locking on Thaicom 3, you might be tuning in those "Tarb world" encryted channels that cannot be view unless you have a smart card. You might get more channels if you look at this link http://www.lyngsat.com/thai3.shtml.

Colin, Pas 8 KU is encrypted with a sh%t load of tarbs channels. The only fta channel is TV5 as we have now lost ABC asia pacific.

So what you are getting is all the tv/radio stations about 50 odd, but you need the card/box the view.
