With the impending cessation of GWN via PAS2 soon, what or where can these STB's be used?
What would they be an alternative for?
Is there any more of this encrypted signal else-where in the world worth watching?
Hey.... if its worth investigating lets put the feelers out!
No doubt they will be sold off at an incredible price (NOT)

Does this mean all of the services on PAS2 eg, JJJ, Radio National, win, ABC etc. will be removed, and what time frame are we looking at.

Well according to the blurb thru the news info on the opening web page "apsattv", follow the links via the GWN page 1.
It mentions a date in June 12th I think?
I have made calls but waiting for a response!
I suspect it will be all Australian sevices currently on PAS2.
Otherwise its a big vacant hole on KU!
Anyone want to rent a satellite........ I've got $10.00 AUD.

As people will know the Aurora service on Pas 2, was set up prier to the B3 //C1 service, and covered only W.A. using . The main reason for this was 1/ transponder space on available satellites and 2/ mostly Panamsat only use Powervu as an encription, Off cause exceptions are always the rule..

While the rest of the Country enjoyed there Homestead Analogue service, W.A. pushed on with its PowerVu Rabs service.. supplying very expencive receivers. Then when the Aurora service started on B3, they supplied a $750 voucher to assist with the changeover.. this gave the subscriber a UEC 642 receiver.
Now it would seem that the Pas 2 service will close, Not really any surprises there, as a lot of people that where dependant on the Homestead service waited for the Aurora B3 service to start of obtained smartcards from there eastern neighbours. In short the PowerVu service was VERY under subscribed, mainly due to the cost of the S.A. receivers

With the changeover, anyone who can prove that there S.A. receiver is approved for RABS will get a free of charge changeover to Aurora on C1, but this only applies to W.A. and as people will know every single Scientific Atlanta PowerVu receiver is listed on there data base, so any fiddles with unknown S.A. receivers will not be possable. and as the receivers are de-commissioned, so there authorisation will also be cancelled, or in simple terms, the receivers will be converted into Boot scrapers, by the owners of the Encription namely PowerVu..

And the chances of getting the things authorised for another service is very very remote, unless your name just happens to be Kerry or Rupert. Even if you do manage to get one that is authurised for RABS the service will be switched off..

So if anyone wants a $3000 receiver that does nothing and will do nothing, check out the local land fill, for i suspect that thats where there headed, under the wheels of the compactor..

Just 4 the sake of comment....
I did get some feed back on this rx, but apart from being PwrVu encrypt & FTA (?) I have dwn loaded a manual that say so.... the problem is that they r suspect in the pwr supply.... (funny all sat rx with SMP's seem to be the same just ask a Humax owner!)
If I feel up 2 it I can get some as boat anchors but does the freight (from W.A) warrant it?
Might spend money on a blind scan rx in stead.

The power supplies in them are not the best, I have had 3 die on me, and also the sensitivity of the recivers varies alot as well, some are more deaf that others. But one thing I will say is the picture they throw out is bloody clear.

This is the thing with Scientific Atlanta PowerVu receivers Nic'O
They are a set and forget receiver, There built to do a job, and do it very well, which is downloading ONE channel or program 24 / 7

You say that your having trouble with Power supplies, I would think the reason fore this is your turning the thing on and off, and they don,t like that. There built to switch on and stay on.
And as a download machine the picture quality is superb.

But I think you will find as a FTA receiver there more or less useless, with only a 20 program menu.. again there not built to change channels..

Are there any rumours of what might take up the vacant 12281V transponder on PAS2 if the WA Aurora PowerVu channels are finally closed down?
If the new user still squirts some signal in the direction of NZ without using PowerVu, might be something there for me to watch??
