Thumbs up SRT4800II for B1 Reception.

Just thought you'd all like this one...
If using a Strong SRT4800II & u like to "hobby" scan Optus B1, you'll find that the rx will stall & lock on, then will power off then power on to the High Def ABC channels.
This is a pain!
After u sat scan, enter CH List, then proceed to DELETE (Blue Key) un-wanted outlets. (ie) ABC XX, ABC 1, 2, 3, 4, HD.
But be QUICK! If u miss the HD ch you'll have 2 do it all agn.
Strong are aware of this & hope 2 rectify soon in the new software upgrade.
Hope all the static freqs are all included too!
Not just the "normal" ones.
I have been told that this technique may have been included in a recent publication called "Satfacts", but I don't get it anyway.
Happy scanning!

Mmm, another receiver with the ABC HD problem. The Powtek hates em too. The screen turns green, locks up and the only way out is power off, pull out RF and then delete.

The software I,m using with the Nokia, also has the same problem,
the thing will load a HD channel, then flash, and ether the screen goes blank or the the receiver goes into a reboot, and comes back on with the channel before the HD channel was loaded

SRT4800IIp_040831.bin seems to lose sat position

hi LNB just loaded the subject firmware, got SUCCESS from the load and the STB boots.... (phew, first time is a bit worrying, especialy as I have no Mod Shop special software as a backup)

all my sat, TP and channel records display fine except the dish MOTEC positioning seems off and I havent got any signal off any sats yet......

still investigating but are there any known issues or items I may need to reinitialise?

ps, thanks for your effort in generating code updates, it makes the world of sats much more interesting for the rest of us amateurs

the saga deepens

as I said above, I loaded the latest 4800II software.... and the receiver indicates no (well just the background 47%) signal strength.. and 10% quality

paired my STB with another using a splitter... if the other STB was powering the LNB then my box received signal and channels with no problem

so it appears that my STB no longer powers the STB, checked with the handy multimeter... about 16 and 21 volts (DC with no load)... bit higher than the 14V (vertical) or 18V (hoizontal polarisation) I expected but the other box also showed the same

a mystery, why doesnt it work

the other piece of the puzzle.... both our STBs are Mod Shop TMS007 specials, supposedly identical to the 4800II... but maybe there is some proprietary trap in there???????

anyone see a pattern in all this... besides chuck it away and buy a proper branded product?

You could try a splitter as a "T" - measure the LNB volts in the loaded condition monitoring the voltage on the spare splitter leg - i.e. with the LNB in operation and drawing current. The box you have, I believe, is exactly the same as the Strong and should behave in the same manner. A simple software change should not alter the parameters of the LNB voltage output which is normally done with one of two (or other for LNB off) voltages supplied to the control pin of an adjustable regulator. I would think that the unloaded output of such a regulator could easily read a couple of volts high.

It's quite simple the HD streem is not compaterable with our DVB receivers, perhaps we should all aquire "Tandburg" receivers, I know where there's 20 of them. and there all working away.

Measured LNB voltages under load

and Vertical showed as 16.8V (hardly different from no-load
Horiz quickly changing at odd voltages from 0 to 21V (I thin I even saw 16.8)

I thought the latter was just the normal probe not contacting properly but I tried many times, back and forth, Vertical was solid

so, it appears a real problem..... sending back under warranty (purchased Feb 04)

rgds and thanks for your advice

btw I half stripped a piece of cable to expose the centre conductor (keep it in the toolbox.... never to be used again)

You appear to have a hardware problem which should be repaired under warranty. I have returned TMS gear under warranty and had it back in under a week, and paid for transport one way - I used Registered Aust. Post.......

as I said above, I loaded the latest 4800II software....

Normally once you change the software, that voids any warrenty, even if the problem is not software related,,

Some receivers now have a "Tape" seal on the lid, with removel of broken seal voids warrenty. Personnal the first thing I do with a new receiver, Amp, or whatever is rip the lid off, and they normally sit on the rack minus the lid fixing screws.

the saga ends .... full marks to TMS

took the TMS007 back to the TMS branch office, they were not phased by the updated software load....... plugged the box in and it worked with their LNB

I bought a replacement Universal LNBF (3 months warranty only on the old one, $30), plugged it in at home.... it works

these "facts" dont quite square with the tests I did above.... may do some more testing inshallah but meanwhile the wife is happy watching her favourite shows again
