Remote control

I picked up 3 Aus##r remotes, looks like the latest model -that is not the blue plastic but gray face with black rubber back. Look like (almost new) terrific remotes but can they be used (or replace) remotes of other name receivers. How does a remote work?, that is do they each send different wavelenght signals?, can they be converted?. Thanks

Aus##r remotes are still the property of Aus##r, and I would doubt if they were of any use with free to air boxes.

Thanks Kenny, I thought that like select that the equipment become yours after the year contract is concluded. There is some pay tv equipment getting thrown out at the recycle every so often like complete satellite dish even Ipstar internet dishes. Those new remotes feel really good in the hand better then some tiny winy remotes with those small buttons. It's a shame to throw them out.

Yes it is a shame Eddy39. Dishes are a little different because they are usually payed for by the customer when the installation is done, and remain on the roof.
No problem using them.

But if ya really need a remote as above just be friends with an installer as they get the remotes for free. I got one from ebay for $20 that a mate that installs for me said he could hand me as many as I want, always too late!

If they are the same as Foxtel IQ remotes (with a rubber back), they can be purchased at Dick Smith (and other places) and also are programable to use with other equipment. Here on the Foxtel site you can download the manual for the remote.

http://www.foxtel.tv/accessories/data/prd1.pdf

The manual has full instructions on how to put the remote into learning mode and program it to operate other devices.

Foxtel actually promote this feature to allow their remote to operate the TV etc.

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks guys, will see what the Dick Smith remote looks like.I bought those three with a lot of other gear from the weekend recycle.Cost divided by the number of items would be a decimal of one cent.I will check that site mfahey - thanks. would have been a shame to crush them for plastic and metal.Checked it out... looks exactly like the F0....l remote.FO...L iQ Remote

* Universal & Learning remote
* Operates the F..EL iQ box
* Works with most brands of television, DVD, VCR and AV amplifier
* Easy to set up and use

looks like something else to chew on over the next few days.

As per my knowledge remote works on the signal basics. It sends a signal and receives a associated reply from the concern product attch to it.It is just a transfer of signals.
