Hi to everyone.
I have just joined the forum and would like to say hi to everyone first.I live in Apollo Bay Australia..
The question I am going to ask is I have been given a old DVB Jiuzhu Model DVS-398H decoder. Is it worth trying to get it to work or just throw it out. I am new to this so need a lot of HELP.. I thought i would try to get this working first and then buy a decent Decoder. I have the dish etc but maybe too small but only going to use it when we go caravanning.. Is there any step by step instructions I could read to try and work this out..
Well hope someone can put me on the right track..Enjoy what I have read so far but boy do i need some help...Well have a lovely day Peter..

Hi Peter,
A lovely spot Apollo Bay, spent a fair bit of time there in my mis-spent youth!!
May I suggest you spend some time reading the NEWBIE CHAT area as well as numerous other threads.....?
You will glean a shootload of info and then be in a position to ask more specified questions.

For a start, I dont recall the decoder, but that doesnt say it wont work. Do some research, and ask away in the newbie section.
Good luck!

I would chuck the old decoder, Strong make a cheap but good models including a 12 volt one. The dish should be at least 65cm. More stuff below.:)

G'day Peter. Perhaps the best way to test an old decoder is to plug it into a dish that is already working. After loading in the correct numbers,....it works or it does not. Do you have access to a system that works at all?

Hello petermacg and welcome to Vetrun.
Do you have anything to mount you dish on, if you are going to use it camping you will need a stand they can be purchased from a sat shop or knock one up out of a couple of sizes of pipe, I made one recently (http://www.vetrun.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9305) just for testing purposes.

If you have the dish mounted and pointed roughly north you will also need a sat meter as shown.

Once you are connected as shown above then the settings for the satellite you desire and the frequency of your LNB must be set on the decoder box (STB). Your STB will then send power through to the LNB and the needle on the sat meter will react the closer you get your dish to the correct position. It would also be a good idea to get a compass to ensure you are pointing in roughly the correct direction to start with
As mentioned above there is loads of good advice to be found in the newbie section but please continue to ask question here and please keep us informed as to your progress we are all keen to help and were once at the stage you are at now.;)
