View Full Version : Fortec 5100 Ultra Scart output
Is anyone successfully getting a scart output from a Fortec 5100? The manual says there is a Video output setting (RGB/CVBS) but it doesnt come up in my menu. Will this even help? I have a scart to component lead hooked up to TV but nothing is happening. It has to be something basic I am missing.

The SCART connection should be LIVE at all times, no need to switch via the menu

make sure the scart lead is correct. some have "in" labelled on them when they should be out, vice versa.
Thanks for replies guys. So the Scart output is always on regardless of if the composite RCA's are being used as well? The reason I asked about the RGB/CVBS issue is I am trying to hook it up to a Sony LCD via a scart to component cable to the component input of the TV. Yal. are you suggesting the cable might be directional?? Also the Fortec manual and site are a little unclear about the output of the scart. Some places say CVBS(composite) only and some suggest it can be changed to RGB(component) via some on-screen menu which I dont seem to have. Now getting way out of depth technically, a few things I've searched say that the Sonys input could be YUV which might accept a CVBS signal???? Regardless there is absolutely nuthin happening at the TV end. Completely black screen. Its a shame because the picture is worse on LCD via RCA composite than my old CRT.

yes your cable depending on brand or even an adapter scart to component can be directional either way. You need to find out which is what. etc, e,g, all of the above?

No M8, Please don't go near the subject of "directional" cables, I'll rant on about the why's and wherefore's for weeks about it..
Normaly RCA to Scart cables come with 6 RCA plugs, 3 imput and 3 out
put. So if you use the "scart" in the fortec, you will use the "output" RCA plugs. BUT if you use the "scart" plug in the tellie, you will use the "input" RCA Plugs to the Fortec.
This might help of confuse you more...
SCART CONNECTION CONFIGURATION
Pin 1 right audio out
Pin 2 right audio in
Pin 3 Left audio out
pin 4 audio earth
pin 5 Blue earth
pin 6 left audio in
pin 7 blue in Pb component
pin 8 source switching
pin 9 green earth
pin 10 interconnection
pin 11 Green in Y component
pin 12 intercommunication
pin 13 red earth
pin 14 intercommunication earth
pin 15 red in Pr component
pin 16 fast RGB blanking
pin 17 earth for composite video
pin 18 fast blanking earth
pin 19 composite video out
pin 20 composite video in
pin 21 earch socket
I'll check the cable. I cant remember anything about direction on it. I am more concerned that I am trying to pump a composite output in to a component input. If I was, would I get something on screen, even just some static? All these input/output formats are gettin on my wick! This set has DVI, HDMI, Composite RCA, Component RGB, S-video, and Spdif. 10 all up. So much for standards.

three plugs [RCA] should be labeled, "IN" and three labeled "out"
The other way to do it is to get hold of a SCART to SCART plug, and just couple up both SCART sockets
WES VC 19 $6.90
Dick Smith C 1210 $12.99
or follow the connection table above, get a SCART plug 55 cents, and an old RCA lead , and make up a SCART to RCA cable yourself.
I don't think anything unforseen [no smoke] will happen connecting composite output in to a component input.. It will just sit there and do nothing.
