 i have a Dynasat number1 mini decoder picked it up from e bay $71 good little decoder no frills blind scans good impressive. using it on telstar 10 with 2.4 metre mesh from sydney getting MTV very strong signal no dropouts also getting several other channels on a weaker signal with occasional pixelations.
the question is this: on the signal quality meter if you have a look at the images there is a scale called BER. dont know what it is. the manual doesnt make any reference to it. i noticed that when the BER increases the signal quality goes down and thats when you start to get pixelling and sometimes you lose signal alltogether does anyone know what BER is. MTV signal is very strong but all the other channels have the same problem. im thinking of getting a bigger dish . could it be the processing speed of the decoder lagging behind the signal? im baffled.

ok got a reply from another forum and here it is

The more BER in the signal the more pixealating you will get

BER
Short for bit error rate. In a digital transmission, BER is the percentage of bits with errors divided by the total number of bits that have been transmitted, received or processed over a given time period. The rate is typically expressed as 10 to the negative power. For example, four erroneous bits out of 100,000 bits transmitted would be expressed as 4 x 10-5, or the expression 3 x 10-6 would indicate that three bits were in error out of 1,000,000 transmitted. BER is the digital equivalent to signal-to-noise ratio in an analog system.

memosyd: what can i do about it to stop it happening. change receivers ? i tried another recevr. but still same problem .im using 2.4 metre mesh if i get a bigger dish will it help. oh by the way thanks for the tip i changed the lnb frequency to 5150 and got other channels but with same problem

Lazer : you need a stronger signal thats about it

The weaker the signal is the more likely there is going to be interfearance / errors are going to come thru

you see in your screenshots how TVM has 0 BER thats good

STV has alot of BER cause of the weaker signal

does it tell you anything . maybe the processor is slow or if i had a faster processor receiver it may not happen would that be coorrect or is a bigger dish the only option

Lazer: All these cheap recievers are pretty much the same

You just need a stonger signal be it adjust the dish to get a better signal or get something larger is your call

Hi everybody,
Just played a bit more with the Dynasat mini1 and it works very well with thw Moteck. Also just scanned Measat 2 and it had no problem with the high S/R 41500,also the pic comes in clear ,as compared to The Humax, wich seems to have a problem with NSTC,on my old TV with RF input only.:)

Anyone knows if the latest Australian numbers [ including Optus to AsiaSat 2] can be downloaded via the internet on the Dynasat receiver. Tried the Thai website but cannot find it.

Gulliver, sorry have not been on internet for a few days - still moving stuff from the old place - new place has boxes reaching for the ceiling so don't know where that cable is but used it last year to download from computer to receiver. I bought that cable from Harvey Norman, they used to have a blue and a yellow but "feel" that the right cable was yellow, was USB on one end and RS232 at the other [ or could be RS232 at both ends]?.
memosyd, I tried putting B3 and D1 numbers in the spare M1 - M2 - F1 - F2 but even though I have high quality. it will not download any site. Will try again once I have clark belt from 701 to AsiaSat 2 in line.
