I have one of these it is a great rxr. It does a good job on the blind scan etc.The menus are also nice. It also has a usb port which you can plug in Mp3's or photos to display on the TV. If any one is interested Pm me & I can arrange a great price. I bought in bulk & a few of me so called mates pulled out.:) :) It also has a card slot & a cam slot. I just completed a blind scam on Mesat 3. It pulled a few feeds out that my Fortec * space & Manhattan had trouble with. It also has componet output as well as a coax 5.1 output. The best feature is you can turn off the dreaded pin code for the installer menu.
Strong 4658X at last a great box for the money!

Hey Jacko
The Strong 3500 has a tone sound on the signal screen. Does that one?
Am more curious to know about the 12V ones like 4564x.
4658x seems like an excellent box. The 4658 is a really good all round multi use box but the sensitive tuner and blind scan in that one make it look superb. Your "mates" may not realise how much better that unit is to the cheapys. They may not realise the value of your reasearch into it's selection.

Does the new advanced blind scan pick up channels that have hidden pids?

Nope. But you can enter them manually.

Leroy do you need to do that via a computer like the older strongs or just via the remote/stb? And without asking you for a full review, how does the blind scan compare with your SCB and Star? Apologies if you have already posted this:)

You can add a channel by doing the upload to your pc and then download back to the box. You can't add a channel with the remote but you can modify one including changing the name as well as the pids. But if someone has found a way i'll stand corrected. Stong blind scan is very slow, Star is slow and SC is I reckon pretty fast. But if someone needed an all round box it would now have to be the strong. I have seen them around the $100 mark on ebay. Almost have to question if it's worth buying just a FTA box when you can get one with a smart card slot.

ps no more reviews......I don't think anyone's listening lol

LeroyPatrol, can you help me with my Strong 4653X? I am unable to get Imp on D1. Have tried editing but does'nt work, can't open any .ndf files uploaded from this box with either SkyX_NDF or channelmaster, they both work with other .ndf but crash when trying to open 1 from the 4653X. any help appreciated.

Hi Leroy, is the 4658 a single version or double as mine has a RS232 not a USB connection also how did you get rid of that pin code.Tried adding satellites on the spare places at the end of the list but would not take, thanks for that info. What web site did you use to get software download for the Australian view of the Clarke Belt?.

I don't know what you mean by a 'single version or double'. You mean card slots? The 4658 only has RS232 where as the 4658X has both RS232 and USB connections. It also has the blind scanning option plus you can get rid of the pin code! The program that shows you the Clarke Belt is Gorbtrak. Make sure you load the update with the Australian locations.

Thanks Leroy, what I meant about double is the same model but different spec. Mine is 4658 but not the X version which makes the difference, {I got caught on that one with Ebay- learn something every day}.What I meant about the Clark Belt was which Australian web site that would download the satellites and its frequencies from our point of view.I have a quite a few missing on my receiver plus many that is not possible to get.I may- as you suggested- change the name and frequencies on satellite I dont need. How did you get rid of the pin code?

Ah ok. It would of been nice to get the 4658X but none the less the 4658 is still a great reciever.
Here is a link to another post with links to down load Gorb Track and the location file for Australia (becasue Australia isn't in there by default).

The pin code is there to stay unfortunately. The it can be disabled on the 'X' model.

you can select the scan range but not the increment.
Have you (or anyone else with a 4658X) tried to change the scan range? When I try it on mine, it won't scan. It'll only scan if I leave the default upper and lower frequencies alone. I'm using a universal LNBF, so scans of most satellites include a lot of "nothing".
FWIW, the firmware in my 4658X is 1.01p, May 07, 2007. I might contact Strong and see if there's anything more recent; nothing on their web site for Australasia.
EDIT: Someone over at Austech mentioned 1.05 as being the latest. I've e-mailed Strong; I'll see what they say.

I haven't tried altering the scan range. Might have a look tonight.
The firmware I have is 1.04 but I can't recall if there is a p or not at the end off the top. biss key menu etc comes up with the 8282.

I just received a reply from Gavin @ Strong, with 1.04 attached. I'll give that a try tonight.
EDIT: Updating the firmware to 1.04 (no "p", FWIW) hasn't made any difference to my limit setting problem. However, I tried a few different things and noticed that if I tell the 4658X that it's just a single L.O. LNBF with a L.O. of 10600, I can change the range (so that it scans from 12250, for example), and it works.
Back to the universal, I can change the lower limit to ~ 11700 or less, and it works, but over ~ 11700 and it doesn't scan.

Any other noticable differences using the 1.04 firmware?
I currently have the 1.01P firmware also and wont change it unless there are some worthwhile changes.

I haven't had a chance to look yet. As it was, fiddling with the upper and lower frequency limits for blind scanning was done whilst cooking dinner.

The only difference that I've noticed so far between 1.01p and 1.04 is that 1.04 doesn't do anything when 8282 is keyed in. (I didn't have a use for that anyway.)

Has anyone else noticed that the time information from some transponders really messes with the clock?
eg;
B3: 12525V - Time and date way out; year becomes 2012.
B3: 12564V - Time and date way out; year becomes 2009.
IS8: 12726H - Time and date way out; year becomes 2031.
IS701: 11174H & 11610H - About 30 minutes behind.
NSS6: 12736V - Time and date way out; year becomes 2000.
NSS6: 12743V - About 60 minutes ahead.
I thought I may be able to correct it using NDFEdit (GMT Error field), but it doesn't make any difference.
yes i have au software for the 4658x
and its version 1.05 no ucas 13-7-2007
