Okay it arrived in the post today and I was initially impressed, the size of the unit is as the same as the strong.
Got it lined up to pas2 and did a free/cas scan, picked everything up that the 2880a did, took just as long.
Then did the same with D1, same story. But I have not been able to work out why it won't drive my dish like the 2880a does. I have plugged both units in, got the same settings I believe on both, but it wont move the dish. I will try again tomorrow.
Unfortunately for me I can't get too excited because the down arrow on the remote turns off the tv everytime its pressed! So I may keep the old one and sell this to a better home. If I do get it up and running I don't think I will find any new surprises because the manual has 2880b on the cover, but 2880a at the bottom of every page! Save for the pictures, its the same manual with the same specs. You can change the RF channel out, thats seems to be the "better and improved" part of the deal, along with the size and look of the unit. New remote but similar, no coloured magic buttons that do nothing on the old remote anyway.
So, if I get the motor to move I would recommend it to a fan of the star 2880a because it is a smarter looking machine, half the size. Pity about the remote and my telefunken telly:)

Watching with interest. Mkhannah.
I can remember the Star 2880a gave position numbers to each sat. Have you you read the old numbers and assigned them to the same sats?
Then perhaps fine move each and back again?

No luck Sliggy, I had forgotten about the motor position numbers and thanks anyway. On the B it doesn't have the motor position numbers on the edit sat menu, but on the edit transponder menu! So I went from transponder to transponder and put in the motor pos as they are on the A. So I have the channel lists in the same order, the motor pos numbers from the A are the same to the transponders on the B, and have selected LNB 1 on each sat on the B as is on the A. No go. Hopefully I will get an email back prior to the weekend so I have a bit more time to play:)

Well I have still had no luck with this unit in getting it to move the dish like my other stb's do. I am sure of one thing that it is a good blind scanner, it works great on one sat. But I cannot get it to drive the motek, its a good chance that it is me. I am disappointed that the Australian company has not returned my emails requesting assistance, it has been two weeks now. Anyway it was never going to be any good in our place due to the remote turning off my tv every time I pressed the up button. So off to the for sale forum I go!:o

Hi Guys, I just recently bought the 2880B reciever. and i must say im pretty happy with it....
Is it possible to enter PIDS manually into the reciever? Im trying to pick up the Aljazeera English channel on Optus C1, but it wont load up this particular channel. Same for Imparja on D1. No Luck.
Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

Load in another channel that will work, then go back in the menu and just swap the frequancies, BUT you must then add the PID's before Al-jazz and Imp will play.
As for Topfield, there a good machine even if there a bit dated, and there is no Blind Scan system.

Bassett, the problem im having, is that i cant enter PIDS into the machine.
Ive been plugging in the frequency, pol and symbol rate. Thats all i can plug in, there no function to enter PIDS manually.

scan in an encrypted channel from the same TP as al-jazeera, and then go into menu, channel settings, channel edit, and then move the left/right arrow until the channel name is highlighted, the press enter, change the pid o the correct ones, and press menu, and wait to save, and then press exit until yoou have no menu on-screen, and select the channel you just edited. should work, did for me with al-jazeera and imparja. unfortunately you can't edit the channel names.
