I was wondering if anyone knew of a decoder readily available that can receive the 4.2.2 signal?I did bring it up in another thread with Troyboy and the only response was via using a sat card on the computer which is handy to know. However I only have a terrestrial card on computer at present but I am probably going to upgrade the decoder before long. So, any ideas please?:)

I think DM does 4.2.2 and I saw the new Humax box with PVR in Europe does 4.2.2.

The Quali-TV 1080 is currently the only consumer box that does 4:2:2 but it is only DVB-S MPEG2 HD and is obsolete for DVB-S2 MPEG4 HD. The Fortec Passion HD due out shortly is rumoured to be 4:2:2 capable too.

Nokia, with DVB 2000 software will give a result, but it's not all that stable. And 4-2-2 receivers are very expencive

Maybe the dreambox is the way to go then. People tend to go on about them for all the dodgy stuff. There seems to be more feeds these days with that 4.2.2 format so it's one more base covered.
Onto another thing, I saw on ebay tonight there is the new improved Star 2880B. If it can hold more info and you can rename channels it wouldn't be a bad thing. I can never find any info whatsoever on the net, despite all the claims with this new one and my 2880A that they can be software upgraded. Hopefully someone will purchase one and post the results:)

bought a dbox 7000 and asked on austech the answer was a definite not. I had thought they could do a lot but apart from excellent teletext & handy hdd was thinking of calling it a U S***Box

Really Dreambox is a bit of a mith, in OZ. Sure they will do a few things, but not a lot that any other receiver will also do, if your prepaired to do the work.
At the moment in the Asian regian, there selling a considerable large amount of Chinese "clone" dreambox's for something like $130, and they come loaded with half a dozen, pre-programmed CS services
The European scene is totaly different conserning dreambox, and nothing is impossable , Experts the like of "triple X" [who dispite many rummers, is still alive and well] are doing some increadable things, but they also have the satellites and a multitude of channels and providers to pick from.
But dispite that, they will NOT do 4-2-2, and the professional receivers used for that service are well outside our limitations with regard to cost and aviliability. I did have a look at one. the thing was a metre square, 20 channel program and was around 4 grand, plus frieght.

You are right in some ways. The ethernet port and the fact it is running linux are the advantages of a Receiver like the Dreambox, Mutant, Relook ItGate etc
These receivers are also very flexible for the hobbiest who is not afraid to spend hours customising their receiver from the PC
4:2:2 is very possible with the Dreambox ...but you do need to use your PC and login to your Dreambox and then watch on your PC - it is quite simple but a pain as you can only watch on the PC (with a Laptop it is not so annoying).

Simmo you have a way with words, won the 2880B for $99 inc postage, so I will see first hand the "new improved model" in a week or so and share all on the forum. Wouldn't it be nice to have 4.2.2.....one can dream!
2880B reminds me of a Datsun I used to have, that was a bargain so hopefully this is well priced too.:)

regardless of the ethernet port, it's simply not fast enough, unlike the Nokia we were using 10 years ago which has a SCSI port, which is a far better system for satallite receiver computer combination. Also the dVb 2000 software leaves any Dreambox software foe dead, with regard to flexability.

They might be considered the best, unfortunatly we simply don't have the programming to use them as there intended. but at the end of the day, sure they will C.S. But they won't log the data stream, or detect other stuff, that a 10 year old nokia will. If your into that sort of thing.
These days you can buy Clone dreambox's pre-loaded with half a dozen C.S. services's

They won't do 4-2-2 and for the record nether will Triple Dragon, which has a far better Linex system, if your into that sort of thing.
and after all TD was designed by the guy that invented DVB 2000. But unfortunatly they did not take of as well as the dreambox series did.
But if you would like to post pictures of a dreambox doing 4-2-2. I will happly apoligise
