what do you need to know? Do you already have a dish setup and properley aligned or are you looking for a satellite with the dish and decoder?

I have a 2.3m Mediastar dish, floor mount, an actuator, D7.5 Mediastar IRd and a C Band LNB 13 K up to 5.150Ghz and a Satellite finder SF 95. All set up, pointed to the true North, 50 degree Polar axis with 0 inclination and now trying to shift the LNB in out and around at various clock positions. Also can't comprehend how to set 0.38 for the F/D ratio as specified by the dish manufacturer at the LNB. Also do I have to input all the satellite names, tp say 3H, Ms/s before I can track any satellite down. I understand that for digital ird it is either yes or no picture. After fiddling around for 2 weeks, even scanning by the ird, no picture message appeared on the video and nothing on the radio. Your help is appreciated as I am new to this stimulating hobby! :(

I would assume by your script, that you have a dish on a polar mount, which you have mounted on a perfectly streight pole, and this is aimed at true North...
Would I be correct so far,,, While i do not intend to write 1000 or more words here on how to set-up a polar mount to track the Clark belt, what I will say is that you have only just started. Have you set the Declenation angle, and the dish tracking angle..
The princibles are that you set the dish up on the lowest angle satellite, then the highest, then re-adjust the lower, then re-adjust the
northern pointing alinement..
With regard to the LNB setting, these are determined by the LNB
arms and where there attached to the scalar Ring.. It should be more or less correct
You will need to load the frequances into your receiver first, before you can search for satellite signals...
A while ago, I did send out a set of zip files for people that wanted to set up a polar Mount, If you would care to send me your E-mail
address to my box in on this site , you are very welcome to a set.
But no Yahoo or Hotmail accounts as they will not except large files

He did mention floor mount?
which might mean a groundmounted dish?
1st thing he needs to check is if  the grounds level!

My email address is tsiyan@alphalink.com.au and I have gone through the books on the method of the mounting of the dish . It is mounted on a pole anchored to the ground slab. The SF95 reading goes up to 7+ and around 5-6+ which I believe that register satellites presence. But scanning all the satellites with the frequency and transponder in, no picture occurs. Have tried varying the polar axis from 50 to 37, declination 0 to 5 . Rotated the LNB to the best optimum reading on the SF95 .What could be wrong? :(

See Craig, Its on a pole,,, :D :D :D
The item in "SadFacts" was the one I was refurring to,,, With regard to adjustments, Half a turn of a nut will throw you of alinement.. It's a very presise thing..
The first thing you must do is set the declenation angle, do you have youe location [site] Geographical Position, easest way to work that out without a GPS is phone the local Airstrip, near enough is close enough.
What your doing is tracking over or under the Clark belt, and just a small adjustment at your end will throw your alinement out by miles
up where the satellites are located..

Thank you for your advice and engaging a installer recently declared that most of the satellites are blocked by 2 tall trees toward the west of true North. Only PAS 8 is free of any obstruction. I have to relocate the whole installation to another site in the garden . I am looking for an installation that need no embedding the pole  into the ground as when I relocate to another place, it is easier. A tripod system is preferred . Any recommendation how I can do it? I have to re :( wire the whole system another 20 m from the house. Any problems?

Do anyone using Mediastar Decorder having problems of missing data base ? I recently input all the satellite details etc and later found all missing? Any recommendation ? :(

It probably doesn't save the details unless the frequencies are searched and the channels are loaded.

You can relocate your dish to a trypod mount, BUT the mount does
have to ankered, to the ground, and in this case a concrete block or slab, Your far better of with a Pole, or you could mount the thing on the house roof,, What a lot of people do is attach the pole to the house wall, then run it through the tiles or Iron so its well above the roof, and then bolt the dish up there in the breeze.
With your installer, make sure he knows what a Polar mount is before you engage him to do the job, or you'll be teaching him, most off'um know where B3 is and thats it..

Thank you for all your advice and it is good to get experiences from seniors like you all. I am still learning day by day and it is a rewarding experiences. Also I am still pondering whether there is a battery back up in the decorder or a ram and could the database be erased so easily. I have put in 100 channels and 7 satellites and they just disappeared. Luckily I did not get receive any channels as yet. I am still learning.
I was quick to ask the installer whether I could put the dish on roof mount but he was frank enough to say that because of my location, it will be still the same because of the 2 tall trees at 250-320 degree west where the popular AS2-3 is positioned!

With reguard to a battary back-up in your satellite receiver, Unfortunatly that is doubtful, it always amazes me that they do not include this feature, VCR's suffer the same fate, where as a cheap and nasty sterio, has this feature..
I think your problem is , even though you install the frequances
you are failing to press "Store" or "O.K." after each frequance inclusion
or as the channels are not actually found by the receiver, and therefor not loaded, then they simply will not save, as they are not reconisied my the receiver...
This happens with Nokia and a few others while I can load all sorts of wonderful things in [abet one at a time] unless the receiver finds the
signal, they are lost,, Where-as with the Hyundai, you can load a full satellites transponders before pushing search, and they will be retained..

Can anyone described the method of using Satellite Finder SF 95 to get the optimum peak signal? The manual is not good enough. Any good recommendation?

bassett, Can I have a set of zip file for my to set up the polar mount to assess where I went wrong?
tsiyan,

Thank you Sir,, Your connection puts mine in the Stone age,,, But we push on,,
I always tell people , no Yahoo, No Hotmail, and they wonder why.. It would seem that files that have been produced via a scanner always appear bigger then they are, and to add to the trouble of sending anything that I do send out goes through Nortons first, adding to the time..
Actully I had a bit of a laugh, when you said [LNB] Files sent, And I wondered how many you would get back,, I have found that 4 or 5
in one day will fill the inbox of most people, and if they don,t keep there delete systems up to date, One file will clog up the system..
This ADSL or whatever you call it, is all very nice, IF everyone is using it
Unfortunitly,, Not everyone has access to it, and many people like myself, will never have access, Then there is the cost factor, I have a
friend that writes to these boards that has ADSL the cost is $100.00
per month, That would be half my yearly internet bill. Frankly I can't see the justifecation for the cost, IN my case,, Some people may
have the work to justify the high cost,,
So I just plod along, with my old unreleable phone lines,
3 dial-ups the other day ,just to download some e-mails, But like
the Tortouse and the Hare,, we get there..

I was itchy handed and opened up the Mediastar D 7.5 and found that there is a card to be able to be inserted into the pcb. Obviously this ird need another pcb insert to be used with this smart card. Can anyone highlight me how do I go about getting one of this card and the pcb insert? The smart card I suppose will be used to encrypt some specified stations right?? :P

I too have used one of these receivers. And yes I had to have a poke around inside when I saw the card slot on the outside ;)
I was told on some other forums that no , its not feasible to retrofit a smart card slot into this machine.
I did however have quite good results with this box and found it very easy to use.
I had no problems with the box storing settings / ch's etc even when it had been shut down and removed from power for extended periods of time (wonder how it does that..if no battery backup?)
