I've been given advice to buy a strong 4657 decoder. I was told it would be the best for my purposes, he's selling it for $200. What do ppl think?

I need it to view Optus B3, IRDETO 2 video encryption, however i would like to keep my options open to be able to view c-band at a later stage upon changing my dish. Would this decoder allow me this?

Many people advise others to buy a receiver with which THEY are happy, a little like the choice of cars, logic rarely agrees with such advice.

The Strong range of receivers are no better or worse than others, any modern receiver will work on both Ku and C band satellites.

The 4657 (from their website) has embedded CONAX which means you will need to buy a CAM for the slot in the receiver, it makes more sense to get a receiver which has IRDETO embedded as this is the system used on the B3 services you seek. The CI slot could then be used for CAMs for other possible services.

Most users on this forum would suggest a blindscan receiver - a feature the 4657 seems to lack - this is fine for 'set and forget' use, but you will find a blindscan receiver more fun when you have learned more about the hobby aspect.
