I have just received my new fortec 5100.It has 2.41 firmware.I played around with it and found it wasnt picking up videoland clearly (pixelating occassionaly) compared to my x2.
I was wondering if any newer firmware might help?
Also ntsc conversion to pal is not to good ,that is, cant get full screen.
The newest on the fortec website is 2.67.

Should check if the fix you are after is listed in the list of changes they have made to the firmware.

Nobody sells spare parts for it either here in Australia.I wrote the supplier no reply,i check with other providers and nothing...To me i rather buy a chinese one, cheaper and effective, plus spare parts in all the crazy clarks stores.

That's news to me. nothing wrong with my conversion.

It depends on the software loaded, just because it's the latest, does not mean it's better for the applecation you want it for.. And for the record, there is NO SOFTWARE designed or written for australia.. And that is not restricted to Fortec,, About the only satellite receiver software specificy written is the stuff for the pay providers, with there receivers, and that's probably modified from somewhere else

On a pal tv, ie not multisystem, the E3 pisses all over the Fortec!!!

mate the E3 pisses over everything, Picture quality, sound reproduction, and the way they have there satellite menu's set up. Plus over the years, I,ve had a bloody lot of receivers, and they piss over everything when it comes to channel loading times.
Actually, I just got another one, so I have a breeding pair, there was a rumer that they had introduced a E4, with a PVR, and a twin tuner, Check metabox site, but when you check on metaware, it's all crap.

Why do I want two,, One's getting panasat 2500 software, for blind scan and autorole. if it works.. and we will never know till we try it.

As for the Fortec and NTSC, when you consider that there designed in Canada, which uses NTSC, it should be good.

Al7bar 2.40 works lovely on my Fortec CI 5100 Ultra

I find the Fortec NTSC-to-PAL conversion bad because I only see about 75% on the PAL TV screen, black bars present top and bottom of the screen, black bar bigger at the bottom....

The Powtek and the Vbox/Atom both show pictures show full screen.

Does anyone suggest a firmware update can affect this conversion ?

Well I had a HELL of a time configuring my fortec to work with my motek.I would not like to start from scratch and try to allign a motek with this.
I tried various software and found the latest alzbar 2.84 to work. The only problem is it wont load measat2 channels. It detects Q level but no channels load. The tuner is not very good.Maybe its a software issue?
It works well with the motek now.

Just an update,I loaded the channel list for measat via pc and then was able to view the channels on the fortec.

Sounds like the aspect ratio is set on 16.9

The aspect ratio setting does nothing in this mode.

I use Al7bar 2.42 and it seems to work fine for general use with a motorized c band dish using a vbox. It is stable and I haven't had any crashes or anything like that.

Vetrun, I now have Jgarg's 5100. I'm leaving the software he loaded for the time being, but I'd like to reload the channel lists. What are you using? The latest I have is AUPACIFIC 2.31.
I've found it noticibly better with regards signal strength over my Lifetime Ultra. On the same sat/channel, same dish etc, quality is about 15% higher.
Wal
ps: ntsc is no problem on my TV, it's capable of pal/ntsc, but I run the output of my sat rec. via a multi mode VCR which talks pal to my TV.

I don't use channel lists, I just blind scan the satellite.

OH,....

.... "DER", where do you think ALL the other sites get their info on new feeds ?

Crikey, it's here or APSATTV...

Be aware that ANY blindscan receiver misses info... you must have 27 different receivers and 82 different dishes, with various brands of cable, DiSEqC, crimp versus compression connectors, connected via 84,000 different possible connections to get them all.

YOUR input makes it happen.

But after all the above being said....DO STORE A CHANNEL LIST!!
If something goes wrong, you have something to load back in.

Thats one of the reasons I use the E3, because I have many customers with either an NTSC or PAL only TV and the E3 can convert either way.

I've also been chatting with apsattv and we've decided on a list of satellites to be included in the next E3 Satellite & TP patch. :D :D :D

This patch will have the optus and new Apstar5/6 and other new satellites coming up. You can save your current channel and satellite list with the STB Wizard in case you ever need to completely clean out your system and re-install. Very handy. :D

Is this a patch exclusive to E3's (as part of the firmware) or a general thing that can be put into a cheap Fortec?:D

Fortec won't like alien software....you will ruin the receiver....(don't)

It's for Emetaboxes. I've had many people complain that the Aussie sats were missing so plan to rectify that.

No mate it's not for Fortecs. Don't load software from one manufacturere into another decoder unless you want to creat a boat anchor.

I guess I deserved that friendly(?) dressing down, Ocean :)
I was using the term "channel lists" incorrectly & loosely!
What I really meant was a "Satellite list" for our region. I do use the blind scan to find my channels.
I must be more attentive to what I really mean when I'm talking to you "old hands" in this hobby. Sorry still a novice:)

Rubbish,,, Using Panasat 2500 software, gives an autorole program, something that fortec does not have, and it's now a recognised download.

Read the thread again and understand that *waltzb asked if the E3 satellite and TP patch was suitable for a "cheap Fortec".
