I turned my TV on tonight and theres no signal showing on my F1 ACE Humax.... It worked perfectly a week ago but now the STB signal detection shows 50% level but 0% quality, which is what counts of course.
When I went to use the box it was in standby mode, I didnt set it to standby so could it have gotten too hot and shut itself down, as well as getting damaged by being hot? The box does get pretty warm.
Ive checked and wiggled the dish and this has no effect on the signal bars, the cable seems fine also, including the connections at both ends.
Its pointed at Optus B3, I dont see this satellite as an option in the menus, but maybe I just added the name as a "user defined" when I set it up.
So Im not sure what else I can say, if the dish hasnt moved and I select the signal levels/detection screen and I see no quality can I presume the box is dead? Seems strange all the menus work but Ive lost the signal??
Maybe B3 has been shot down.....
Any help appreciated.

Have you tried turning it off completely from the wall and back on again?

What was the box seeing when it was working ?
The F1 is a cheap toy, just replace it with a modern, feature enhanced receiver and enjoy !

Just borrowed another reciever, it worked perfectly so mines dead I guess..
So what do you recommend then Ocean, as a replacement? Theres a Dreamax 470 on Ebay that usually goes for around $100, seems ok? I dont need anything really fancy, I was actually quite happy with the Humax....

If you were happy with the Humax just get another one. Humax receivers generally have good picture quality....and you will have a spare remote control !

When you say "feature enhanced" what doea that mean exactly? Ive heard of auto scanning or something like that but Im not sure how any of these fetures will help me. I mainly use it for watching some of the christian channels, and some of the other things that popup as suggested by this forum.

Blindscan is exactly what I meant....it is users of blindscan receivers who supply the details you see "popup" on this forum.
If you are a casual user a basic box as you have previously used is fine.
The entry level Manhattan ST120, for example, is a couple of hundred dollars, has all the modern features including a couple of silly games...even built in teletext.
Receiver choice should be determined by the functions used by the operator, and how much time said operator can afford to lose to a hobby.

Do Humax support high symbol rates?
Might be worth looking at something else now.
cheers

Send the old box to me. Probably just one of the supply rails gone crook because of a crap rated capacitor.

VK2XSO, you think? Ive replaced caps on motherboards before, I could rip it open and have a look I guess, seems a strange fault to me, the menus etc work ok, it just cant tune into anything...

Well just opened it up and none of the caps looked "bulgy" and I didnt notice any leaks on either the mainboard or the PS.

I have had "funnies" with these boxes, try a factory reset.

I reset to defaults but dont know how to do a factory reset if its any different. Is there a service menu or something?
BTW Ive already ordered a Dreambox 470 off ebay $120 delivered....

You have done as suggested, some boxes/software call the same function different names.
It's a DreaMAX probably - not a DreamBOX....it should work for your requirement.
