I ordered the same box from adigitallife last week(still anxiously waiting for it!!). one thing that jason did make clear to me was that if you fit the HDD yourself you void the one year warranty.

I opted to save myself the $150 he quoted me and do without it.

There are a few comments on hard drives in the 'Manhattan Plaza series decoders' thread at: http://www.vetrun.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2747&page=9&pp=15

In summary, the user manual recommends Samsung, IBM and Fujitsu brands, and says other brands may cause interference with the receiver's tuning function! The specs indicate a 40 - 120gb HDD.

I have been looking at the Maxtor Quickview AV series HDD, since they are designed for set top boxes and HDD recorders. Hopefully they won't cause interference.

hiebert posted that he had installed a Samsung 120Gb 7200rpm without problem. The ST350 HDD is connected via ATA cable, which you need to supply. Supermega installed a 120 gig Seagate Barracuda with no problems.

Vetrun also warned to watch where you put your hands installing the HDD as there are some very sharp edges on some of the metal.

A prominent UK satellite web store sells the ST350 with the option of a pre-installed 160gb HDD. No brand mentoned but they say they use an AV rather than PC HDD.

I have fitted 3 different types of drives in my St350.
A Maxtor 120GB, Seagate 80 and 120 and finally a Western Digital 120.
The Maxtor and Seagates have been 7200rpm and the WD 5400rpm.
All have worked without an issue apart from the WD120 which seems when the unit powers down has a click like a relay switch.

Seems the links have been changed or broken.

Try this: http://www.maxtor.com/

Click on QuickView Hard Drives on the right, then 'QuickView' 'Read more ...' (not the QuickView 500, the next one), then Data Sheet (PDF, 80kb):

You should get the following .pdf file: http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_us/documentation/data_sheets/quickview_data_sheet.pdf

Maxtor says ... "the QuickView hard drives are optimized for digital video recorders, set-top boxes, media centers and other consumer electronic devices. QuickView hard drives offer AV streaming performance and advanced features that enhance the digital entertainment experience." :-)
