View Full Version : Does anyone have a dreambox?
I am still trying to decide wether to get a Fortec Lifetime Ultra or not.
I was offered a Dreambox a couple of days ago, supplier said it is a good box, better than Ucas, more efficent and the way of the future, but some of the stuff I have been reading makes it sound like you have to have a masters degree in programming to use it.
I wanted to hear it from someone that has a Dreambox that is not a supplier or that has any commercial interests in any sat products, to find out what it is like and how it compairs to the Fortec.
Does any one have one?
Going insame without FTA, terestrial tv works as well as mobile phones out here.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Just ask your 'supplier', does it blind scan....

As simmo said, a dreambox doesn't blind scan so for a FTA hobbyist it isn't comparable to a fortec. It really depends what your using it for, if you want to scan for feeds and not have to enter all the channels manually for each satellite the fortec wins easily.

They won't Bland Scan as such, and really they need to be connected to a computer, most of the time, there are sites out there, that will auto ALL the frequances, on satellites, but frankly there a pain in the arse, unless you buy them for something spicific, While the picture quality is outstanding, and with the right software there is nothing they won't do, EXCEPT blind scan,
Really there for places where there are heaps of services heaps of channels and heaps of satellites. And for the new guy, they are a real pain in the arse,
And for the record I have a couple of them. both unused.
Thanks everyone, I think it might be the fortec.
Now all I have to do is find one that is a good price, my supplier (supplies all computer stuff I use for repairs) does not deal with fortec's, he doesn't like them.
He offered the dreamax for $150.
Thanks again, I appreciate the input.

I can't remember, being a long time since I bought mine. I also did the price check and end up buying from Jason. Even if it is a few dollars more, I would still buy from Jason, service is top grade.
isnt the postage included in the sale price??

Freight is extra. I'm sure they just charge the freight 'at cost' though. Recently I bought a full package: Fortec Lifteime receiver, 90cm dish, heavy duty roof mount etc. Postage totalled $68 to Cowra via TNT. It's a big heavy package and I thought the cost was quite reasonable.
Just for a receiver I'd guess the frieght wouldn't cost much, but they will quote that for you.

I don't think it was much. Being a bean counter, I still bought from Jason. So can't be that bad.

Pray do tell!!!!!!!!
Pray do tell!!!!!!!!
Long story short, between asking for info yesterday and receiving some today, I rang the supplier and ask a few questions, the answers were not the same as before when I asked, the price changed a few times, not to my advantage.
When I ring and ask questions from a supplier for what ever goods, prices or reason I always write notes for reference to what was said later, (old habit during court cases previous life) either for order forms or if something goes south.
Basically he said I was wrong, argued about what was said and the rest is history, just like him.

I was under the impression it was the sponsor upsetting you, when in fact it was the other supplier. I re-read the posts and all is clear now.

I would say you have made a good choice with the fortec. Quite a few of us here are using the 5100 ultra model. It helps to future proof a bit. ;)

Yeah, I agree wtyt2, with a few hobbyists using the same box, we can no doubt fix most issues.
Edit: concur KH.

These bloody Chinese distributers will promise you the earth, before you buy, then when you have it, you won't get a bloody flower pot. Then it's a different story
He be gone, all I can say is previous life habbits never die, nor do the contacts, he say no more, I do no more.
I've got a Dreamax DT470 and it suits me fine... I'm no expert but what I've read about them is that they are a nice unit for the price (I can't yet vouch for whether they have long life though :p )

I have the same box as the picture on ebay. Mine has Powertech on the front.

There's an extra button that the Powtek doesn't have. They may just have recycled the same box. I doubt it would be a Powtek as they are pretty old now.
