Here we go, here we go, here we go!

Ok, I've been trying to setup the dbox to work with cband but I'm not having much luck. I have tried with and without the diseqc. I have done a factory reset to get the default settings back so I can start from scratch, but still.. nothing..

I've tried playing with the diseqc settings and the lnb control, prettymuch every menu that the dbox has. KU, I can plug that in and it starts working straight away, but C-band, no signal, nothing. I'm not sure if im actually getting a signal or not because the dbox has that annoying hexi readout for the quality etc, so i have no idea what the heck I am doing.

I tried setting C-band up on a 'success' brand fta decoder, but that did not work either. Yet I plug Pom's Powtek in, and it works straight away.

It seems that half of the diseqc settings on the dbox don't actually do anything!

Lazersat suggested hooking up the Powtek and connecting the dbox to the 'loop out' of the Powtek. This did not work either.

I'm stumped. Any ideas, fellas?
Sorry if my info isn't very helpful, I'm not really thinking properly at the moment.

Are you using DVB2000 on your DBOX?

hmm ok well I'm still having no luck. Apsattv, I tried what you suggested but it still wouldn't work. I tried 2 freq's on Pas8 and 2 freq's on Pas2, but I was not getting any signal/quality.

Hi Drift,

Looks like you are having no success with the dbox on C Band. The Powtek is working fine, yes??

If we go back a few 10's of posts I recall you have had problems with C Band since you inherited the box.

That aside, consider this an early Christmas present. The Powtek is yours :D

I'm fine with me Manhattan, Hummie and Zinwell, I have daisy chained power boards behind all my gear with no spare outlets.

When you are old enough to drink and I am visiting Adelaide, you owe me a couple of Coopers Pale Ale ;)

Enjoy Mate and have a Good Christmas and New Year :D :D :D

Wow, thanks a million mate, I'm speechless :o

Come visit in about 4 years, I'll give you a carton of coopers plus extra :)

Have a bloody good Christmas and a wonderful New Year :D :D

This thing with the D-box, firstly is it a genuine D-box or a 9500 / 9600. there different receivers completly, no English language on a D-box all german and it can't be changed . regardless of software.
Also some software , had a lot of problems with NTSC, and would not play it, but it should still lock and show a signal.
Some one said that , the LNB frequance settings where wrong, which sounds about right. Try Pas 8 Ku service, 12575 H 13845 2/3 or 12726 H 28124 3/4 while a lot of stuff is encrypted there should still be a channel showing a picture.
Then when you have that, go into your setting and change it to 5150,
The big problem with Nokia, any Nokia, regardless of software, is if the dish is just a fraction out, they won't lock. Plain and simple. While other receivers will lock, and play away, Nokia won't.

Number letter on left side on tuner menu refer to signal
For a fec 3/4 signal you will need it to at least read
3F to be able to load anything
.

Try going into expert menu then hitting 2 then "0" this isn't shown onscreen but should pop up a spectrum analyser screen. Which will show like a line graph across 950-2150 mhz

If all you see is like a worm across bottom of your screen then you have no voltage from the lnbf. Use a loop out into the nokia and check but remember the other receiver controls the polarity

@bassett

A guenuine Dbox can be loaded with different software for english. I used to own one and I loaded the gunuine nokia software for the 9500 or whatever it was and also dvb2000 with them both in english. It's just the origional dbox software that is german before the box is modified for firmware upgrades. Dvb2000 is a pain in the ass at first but once you learn it back to front it is great (at least it was a few years ago but now it's a little dated)

Probably FTA 2.4, which is very simler to the original programming. But I think his problem is not the software , but his settings or dish alinement, as you know , just being slightly off, will kill the thing, the Tuners are very unforgiving, where-as other more modern receivers will ignore the slight miss-alinement and work.

And I agree with you DVB 2000, is a pain in the arse, but unfortunatle there will be no more software versions for Nokia, by Iri, as he is now consentrating on his new baby the Triple Dragon.

Hey "drift",

Got the Red Bull outa ya system?

Had a good Christmas?

Have you had time to play??

This is just a check call. What is the status of your setup now

Cheers

G'Day Pom :)

I never ended up with any Red Bull in my system, thats another week away (my bday). Chrissy was good. Lots of pressies and things to play with, unfortunately I had a bung stomach on Xmas day, so that was a bit of a bummer.

Powtek is working great, no probs what so ever. I havn't touched the dbox lately, its unplugged. Wingy gave me his moteck motor, so now I have to set that up on my KU dish :D

28th I went to Milang (Fleurieu Peninsula) with some friends and I only got back a few hours ago. Lots of swimming and fishing, few fireworks on New Years aswell.

Status of my setup: C-Band & KU Band Dish on 4 port diseqc switch with the Powtek. KU Dish on B1, C Dish able to pickup Apstar 6, Telstar 18, Pas 2, Pas 8.

Hokay, got the moteck up and running now, took me about 20mins. Mounted on pole, pointed true north, adjusted angles according to the chart in the moteck setup doccy that somebody on the forum wrote, and away it went. Currently pickup up optus C1 and optus B1. I don't have the sat finder at the moment, so when I get it back I'll try for Pas2 & Pas8.

Easy as pie :D

Now to find a 4m pole for this other KU dish I have.

Good on you *drift !

Certainly, setting up a Motek is easier if you have a grasp of the principles....gained from your C band experience !

The tricky bit is to get it to track from NSS6 to I701, you'll do it !

Well done mate :D

4 Metre Pole

I've just installed a DiSeqc, (thank you aDigitaLife, even got the discount for posting mail to the web design pirates), so that both C and KU are now going through the Manhattan.

Easy as pie :D

Hey drift,

good one...i reckon c-band was easier.

try this.....(im not sure if its the same in your part of world)

Set motor 13 degrees to the east...(towards b1) then move mount & elevation till you get C1.

It should track the clark belt after that..i hope :D

cheers

Ocean, NSS6 would be pointing at the fence for me :p and I don't think I can get I701 either, damn trees *brings out chainsaw*

Hehe nice one Pom. Yeah, 4 meter pole, I'm going to mount this dish next to the verhanda which is 2m high, so I need a fairly long pole. Powtek is working well, by the way. Only problem is, when I move the moteck via the diseqc protocol, the c-band dish moves aswell.

adman, I think it's tracking the arc already :) If I have any probs though, I'll try what you suggested.
C-Band easier, lol, not for me. My dad and I spent a couple of months trying to get it to track the arc properly. It would've been much easier if I had the correct declination angles etc. Pity I never read the motek tutorial, there was a nice chart in there.

Yeah, 4 meter pole.

Tell em you did think about pole Size and wind resistance?

Reckon them 85cm would have a bit.

Drift
15-01-2006, 12:57 AM
Yeah I have thought about the wind resistance. The pole will probably be 60cm in the ground (around that), then the 2 meters for the verhanda, then about a meter above the verhanda, making 4 metres, give or take. I havn't figured out what ID/OD pole I am going to get, depends what is around and how much it all costs. As for wind resistance I plan to support the pole by clamping it to the post of the verhanda. I'll take a couple of piccys later.
The dish I'm going to use is about 70cm, so the wind load shouldn't be that much.
