Make sure it has been tested and proven to work in australia in both DVB-S and DVB-T mode. I did a bit of research on dual units a few months back and I remember there was something about demodulation in australia that was a bit different to other parts, even europe. COFDM rings a bell. Hope it works. Seems to have some great features, esp the outputs. Good luck.

HD sat, that's interesting, definitely a first. A pity the HD sat from ABC (B1) is only 576 instead of 1080. Looks to be a FTA receiver (no irdetto)

The remote is exactly the same as a Fortec Star Lifetime // 5100 Diamond .
As for doing HD on the satellite side,,, The thing is called a HD/sat thats it's name.

It looks like a cheap chinese clone, and the guy selling it is a retailler.. We'll see if he sells his $599 receiver for $158, or will it disappear,,

And remember, when it sounds to good to be true,, IT IS

Hi,
I think the remotes are different ??...my Ultra one ain't the same as the one for the Space.

I also have asked the seller a number of times re a smart card slot to put our sub cards into, but also got no replies.

I emailed a couple of the purchasers of these boxes, and got these replies
HD Sat and HD terrestrial reply,
John,

The Terrestrial side of things works fine. I have not had a HD digital unit before, but it has no trouble in pulling in all relevant signals.

On the satellite side I am a little more vague. The satellite I connect to is the Asiasat3 satellite, mainly for indian tv. I don't think they broadcast anything in HD, but the receiver had no trouble picking up the channels. I currently have a supernet and would have to say I found this unit easier to use.

It does have a smartcard slot on the front of the unit, however I do not possess a smartcart and cannot tell if it works or not. (this is probably something you could help me with as some Asiasat3 channels have encryption). The manual does not make mention of the slot either.

The unit has very little markings on it. It has a manufacturer name Space and model number 600TS. The manual refers to a company called Huadong Electronics Co Ltd but no other information relating to warranty etc.

I purchased the unit because it was a combo receiver allowing me to free up space in the theatre rooom. The HD unit was not much more than the SD and the unit sold for a price a lot lower than terrestrial HD set top boxes on the market.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Plain Sat and plain terrestrial box reply....
Hi John,

The box arrived safely two days after payment had been made. I have tested it, and it works fine both in terrestrial digital and satellite TV. For terrestrial digital TV, it works only in SD mode (it also picks up HD signals, but HD cannot be viewed on my TV set, with the exception of Prime HD --- I don't have a HD TV anyhow). The only problem is I still cannot view teletext (I have contacted the company for techinical advice, but still cannot view it --- will continue trying to figure this out).

For satellite TV, I tested with a 65cm Ku band dish, and it works fine. I haven't got a C band dish and LNB to test it at the lower C band frequencies, but I have the feeling that it should be OK. Don't know if it works with a motorised dish, as I don't have a positioner at the moment.

Hope the above hepls

I did tell the purchasers of the boxes, about this forum, so perhaps they may supply some info in due course ?

Here's a link to the perceived makers of the Space brand stuff
http://www.lshd.com.cn/en/index.htm

So fellas....there's some info so far...better than none I guess...hope a few may have found it of interest.

I have one of these decoders. Only problem is very poor lip sync on sat and terestial transmissions HD and SD. I would like to get a firmware upgrade if possible. Optus B1 HD channels work well. I think B3 Fta Channels all have lipsync problems on any decoder :( but it is very noticeable on this decoder. What do others think about Lipsync ?

Yes. but the price was too high.
I bought a SPACE Digital Satellite Receiver plus a builtin Set Top Box,
for $109. via EBAY, in late 2005. still going strong.
