Hello Melb. Fortec Ultra owners. I need a big favour, as I have a problem uploading files to my PC. To isolate whether I have a PC or receiver problem, I need to try an upload from my receiver to another PC .
Is anybody willing to have a visitor drop by for the test, please?
Naturally, I can vouch for myself :) :)
I can be contacted by email at: waltzb@optusnet.com.au
and am in the Eastern Sub's.
(Have Fortec, will travel!)
Thanks,
Wal

Can I ask,, Why you want to transfur programming // information from a satellite receiver to a computer

Don't you normally do that in reverse, PC to receiver. or are you attempting to set up a J-tag.

Before trying to reload (Download) any files, I need to find out if I have a working set of software, etc. It's too late to find out something does not work, when you have a dead box. So the obvious, non destructive method was to see if it worked, Uploading. Which it does not! There is a "shift" of the data some 6 places to the right. The file/data I'm using for the test is the "key" file which is the least important for a FTA viewer, right? I know what is in the receiver, I can change it with the remote, but what gets into the PC is crap. So I need to make sure everything is shipshape before things go pearshape. That's all!

Thanks, but that's the loader for the software. I don't want to "fiddle" with the actual software in case I end up with a dead set. I figure if nobody else has this data transfer problem, it may be a problem in my receiver, & be likely to effect all software loads. The KeyEnchanter program I'm using came from Al7bar, so I assume it's ok. I've tried it on another old AT PC with various speeds & protocols, same bad result every time.

Instead of me visiting a local Fortec Ultra owner, if anyone wants to come to me with their receiver & cable, I'm happy with that. I just need to isolate the problem to something, beit PC, Receiver, cable or program.

You've lost me,,, If you don't want to disturb the receiver software. By way of preserving the program, with a J-tag for possable later use, what do you want to download.. In fact what else is there to download, ??

Simmo, I'd love to!! Your in one of our Northern Suburbs, aren't you? :D :D

Bassett, you've lost me! I know nothing of "J-tag" & don't know what it's got to do with what I'm doing. Saw no mention about it on Fortec or Al7bar sites.

Everytime you do a flash you run the risk of a dead unit. You can reduce the risk but you can never remove it.

Here's the latest! After much prompting from Simmo, I abandoned KeyEnchanter & used gtools for the test, using the channel/TP lists. With no changes to port settings, etc., it worked fine. All my scanned channels are there.
So, does that mean KeyEnchanter is faulty, or, does it mean that it is not meant to be used on the later Fortec's?
With the later (post 08/2004) Fortec's are the key files part of the xx.bin files?
Any Fortec experts out there?
