Hello,
I saw this receiver listed on ebay pretty cheap for now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5773466884
Reading the manual at http://www.scientificatlanta.com/customers/Source/8986753.PDF, seems like it's a good toy to have, I like the ASI outputs, that are useful for external decoders.
Is anyone familiar with this unit?
Thanks

Welcome to vet's FAN,
While in the right place this item could possably be O.K. but in this part of the world
it's simply well built JUNK. Firstly it's for use with "L Band", which is not in general use here. No doubt some of the technicial purests, will disagree with me and write thousands of words of waffle , on why I,m wrong.
By reading the stuff on the links , it would seem that this unit is used in conjuction with other stuff, and on it's own, is like owning a Bowling Ball, and not having any Pins. Also look at the price quoted, that in it'self gives the game away. Professional satellite receiveing gear is worth many thousands of dollars, and given that fact, this little item should have a sizable reserve, instead of $19.50
In short, don't bother with it , just watch it's progress in the Auction.

Basset,
I am a big fan of commercial gears. Most of my sat gears are commercial such as NDS Standard Alteia, GI DSR 4800....422P@ML feeds are popular over here in N. America. And these commercial receiver give excellent picture for these feeds. The only thing I am missing right now is 8PSK decoder/receiver (plan to get one soon)...I need to sell some of my commercial gear to get some funds for a 8PSK...:-)
In case anyone is interested in commercial 4:2:2 receiver, PM me.
As I know the "L-band" is just another technical term using in commercial field. The L-band = freq - LOF. So instead of keying the freqs, users just convert the freq of a transponder to the L-band.
I am doing some research on the 3U Galaxy rack. If I can buy it at good price, I will probably bid on this receiver. I see no reserve on the aution.

We had no idea you were in north America, My comments where intended for people in OZ, Sorry. But I did say, ""While in the right place this item could possably be O.K. but in this part of the world"" just to cover my arse so to speak.
So good luck to you if you can use such an item, and welcome to our way of doing things from "downunder"
